PGA sets new parameters to increase membership among women professionals

Women professionals can now accelerate their dual membership in both the LPGA and The PGA of America, provided that they have successfully passed The PGA’s Playing Ability Test.

The membership item was among several strategic objectives and operational measures approved by The PGA of America’s Board of Directors.

Current LPGA Class A Professionals will be given the opportunity to utilize the reciprocity process of testing out of the three required levels of study, if they have passed the PAT test. The PGA Board set the parameters of the golf course used in the PAT for women players at no longer than 5,700 yards and not less than 5,500 yards.

“The PGA of America recognizes the key role that women play in the sport and its future, and it is our goal to attract more women professionals into our membership,” said PGA of America President Roger Warren. “We believe the updates to the Playing Ability Test will encourage more women to join the Association and be major contributors to our overall mission to grow participation in golf.”
