Telefonica Done With Buying in Latin America, Europe

Telefonica SA, Spains largest telephone company, is done making acquisitions in Latin America and Europe, Chairman Cesar Alierta said.

Were finished with the process we began two years ago, Alierta told reporters today in Bogota. We have an open window in China Alierta said, referring to Telefonicas option to increase its stake in China Netcom Group Corp. (Hong Kong) Ltd., the Asian nations second-largest fixed-line phone operator.

Telefonica will invest $670 million in broadband, fixed-line and other services over the next three years in Colombia, where it agreed to buy a controlling stake in Colombia Telecomunicaciones SA, he said. Telefonica agreed April 7 to pay $369 million and assume debt for control of state-owned Colombia Telecom, the nations biggest fixed-line carrier.
