Crackdowns elsewhere underscore Americas precious freedom

On the anniversary of 9/11, there was a lot of talk about persevering in the War on Terror, with Iraq as the front line in our fight to defend freedom and spread our political values.

While Americans were being exhorted to stay the course, the government we installed in Baghdad was shutting down the local office of the Al-Arabiya satellite network.

Which should have come as no surprise, since Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had warned against broadcasts that capitalize on the footage of victims of terrorist attacks or otherwise undermine Iraqs stability.

Veterans honor Americas fight for freedom

Veterans honor Americas fight for freedom While some celebrate Americas independence with parades, fireworks and barbecues, for those who fought for our countrys freedom, the holiday has a different meaning. They see it as a way to remember veterans of the present, past and future who have fought to protect our country. On the Fourth of July at the VFW Post 10097, bagpipes play Amazing Grace as the American flag waves in the wind. I fly it everyday, everyday, said WWII veteran Edward Ellyatt. Would you be a ’Freedom Fighter’ for America? (w/ Poll)

Would you be a 'Freedom Fighter' for America? (w/ Poll) In the recent late-night scuffle twixt 'Sheehan-defending' Letterman and 'Sheehan-bashing' O'Reilly, a particularly disturbing accusation was made by the scurvy one -- a charge that should burn the senses of all who hold the capacity to think beyond the scope of "your either with us or against us." O'Reilly said: "The soldiers and Marines are noble. They're not terrorists. And when people call them that, like Cindy Sheehan called the insurgents 'freedom fighters', we don't like that." O'Reilly makes two detestable implications. 1) That Cindy Sheehan and 'people' like her consider our troops

Bush Says Iraq Troop Withdrawal Would Endanger America

Bush Says Iraq Troop Withdrawal Would Endanger America President Bush says he understands that some Americans are anxious about the future, with a changing job market at home and U.S. troops continuing to die in Iraq. Mr. Bush said there is a tendency in American economic and foreign policy to pull-back in times of uncertainty, with some people asking why Washington should try to compete or spread freedom when the world is a dangerous place. The president said that it would be a missed opportunity to lay the foundation of peace for generations to come. "See, part of my foreign policy is this," Mr.

To Bush, Iraq’s path to democracy akin to America’s

To Bush, Iraq's path to democracy akin to America's Iraq's struggles to forge a democratic future are comparable to the troubles the United States had while establishing its own constitutional government. And by helping the Iraqis overcome their problems, America serves its own security interests by spreading freedom in a troubled area of the world. Those are key comparisons President Bush made Monday during the third in a series of speeches leading up to Iraq's elections on Thursday. (Read the transcript.) This address focused on Iraq's nascent political process itself - a process that has stumbled and produced internal division,

Thanksgiving Thought: America’s Founders Knew Better

Thanksgiving Thought: America's Founders Knew Better There's no doubt about it: America's Founders were genuinely religious people, and smart. They rejected the idea of a monarchy based on divine right, theocratic government, and secular extremist government. They established a moderate secular government that publicly and gratefully acknowledged God and the dependence of America's government and America's people upon God. They supported religion generally, without establishing an official national religion and with respect for the private right of conscience. The believed that human rights came from God. Thus, America's Declaration of Independence proclaimed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all
